The cell wall is a rigid covering that protects the cell, provides structural support, and gives shape to the cell.

Web plant cell walls are so tough and rigid because they are made up of a substance called cellulose. The “turgor pressure” caused by osmosis helps to give the plant rigidity and keep it. The cellulose fibers have great tensile strength, but will bend if not subject to tension.

The cell wall is a protective structure on the outside of plant cells.

Web the main function of the cell wall is to give the cell rigidity, strength, and protection against mechanical stress. Web why do plant cells have a regular shape? It is a rigid layer outside the cell which resides next to the plasma membrane. Web because the walls of neighbouring plant cells cemented together to form the intact plant, are generally thicker, stronger, and most important of all, more rigid than the extracellular.
